Collection: Polyamide-Imide (PAI)

PAI (Polyamide-Imide) — Solvay Torlon®

Polyamide-Imide (PAI) is the strongest and stiffest melt-processable thermoplastic available, combining the thermal resistance of polyimide with the processing versatility of polyamide. We supply Solvay Torlon® PAI in resin pellets and machined semi-finished bar stock.

Torlon® Grade Overview

  • Torlon® 4203: Unfilled base resin — highest strength and toughness
  • Torlon® 4301: 30% glass/carbon fiber filled — maximum stiffness and creep resistance
  • Torlon® 5030: 30% carbon fiber + PTFE — superior wear resistance and low friction

Key Properties

  • Mechanical Strength: Tensile strength up to 186 MPa — strongest melt-processable plastic
  • Temperature Resistance: Continuous service to 220°C; short-term to 260°C
  • Chemical Resistance: Resistant to most acids, bases, fuels, and hydraulic fluids
  • Dimensional Stability: Very low coefficient of thermal expansion
  • Wear Resistance: Outstanding PV (pressure × velocity) capability

Applications

Jet engine thrust washers · Compressor vanes · Precision bearings and bushings · Oil & gas wellhead seals · Electrical connectors in high-temperature environments
